The Path of the Law was written by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. when he was 56, and originally published in the Harvard Law Review in 1897.
Holmes delivered this essay as a speech at the Boston University School of Law dedication of the newly built Isaac Rich Hall. Holmes was involved in law for approximately 33 years by the time he wrote this essay.
