His Story

Built the old-fashioned way

Joseph was already a business owner, running his first start-up company on Long Island, when he met Michele in Manhattan in 1984. His skills in management, marketing, and technology — and his early conviction that computers and the internet could support and grow a small business — helped transform their training efforts into a professional enterprise. Together they built a business from the ground up and raised a family, with nearly four decades of experience running a medical training business and, since 2003, the Dickson Keanaghan publishing house.

As Joseph puts it: “My wife, Michele, and I built our life the old-fashioned way: with faith, work, pressure, mistakes, resilience, and the stubborn refusal to quit when life hit hard.” That lived experience — not theory — is the raw material of his writing.

The Four Pillars of a Well-Built Life

Joseph’s essays and books are organized around four load-bearing ideas that emerged from more than 60 years of living, building, failing, and rebuilding:

  • Faith — The Foundation. What a person stands on when everything else shakes.
  • Responsibility — The Frame. The structure that makes freedom possible.
  • Work & Wealth — The Engine. Meaningful work forms a person; wealth, properly understood, is stored effort and expanded freedom.
  • Legacy — The Destination. What you strengthen, teach, protect, repair, build, and pass on.

His work is for ordinary serious people — those who want orientation more than outrage, clarity more than noise, and a life strong enough to carry weight. Or, in three words at a time: Build a life that holds.
